BRIEFLY : DAD FACES SENTENCE IN HARMING OF BABY.


LANCASTER - A teen-age father accused of causing brain damage in his 4-month-old daughter by covering her mouth and nose in an attempt to stop her crying pleaded no contest Wednesday to child endangerment.

, 18, faces six years in prison when he is sentenced April 3. Prosecutors said Lewis tried to quiet the infant in November by holding his hand over her mouth and nose, resulting in damage to the brain from lack of oxygen.

The baby has since come out of her coma and is recovering at home in the custody of her mother. It is not known whether the damage is permanent, but family members said the girl is behind developmentally and does not respond to visual stimuli, prosecutors said.

Stoplight shutdown set for next week

PALMDALE - The traffic signal at Avenue P and Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. LANCASTER - The deadline for voters to register for the April 14 city election is March 16.

Voters must be at least 18, U.S. citizens and local residents who are not in prison or on parole for a felony, city officials said.

Voter registration affidavits can be obtained from the City Clerk's Office at City Hall, 44933 Fern Ave., or at local fire stations, libraries and county offices.
