The approval ends a 15-month negotiation period that included arbitration. The board's Collective Bargaining collective bargaining, in labor relations, procedure whereby an employer or employers agree to discuss the conditions of work by bargaining with representatives of the employees, usually a labor union.  Unit added a retroactive 5.2 percent pay raise for the 1998-99 school year. The union represents 20,000 professors at 22 state campuses.

Ex-deputy awarded $275,000 in suit

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is the five member governing board of Los Angeles County, California. Members of the board of supervisors are elected by district, the current members as of April 2006 are:

 voted unanimously Tuesday to pay $275,000 to a former sheriff's deputy who sued the county claiming she had suffered discrimination because of her gender and sexual orientation.

Jamila Bayati of Walnut worked in county jails from January 1990 to October 1995. She claimed she was given unfavorable shifts, offensive posters were placed in her unit's gym and a crude videotape was played in the office.

Valley lawyer sues `Judge Judy Show'

A Mission Hills attorney has sued the ``Judge Judy Show'' and its star and producers, claiming he was slandered when he appeared on the syndicated series as a witness.

None of the defendants were available to comment on the allegations.

Richard A. Nixon alleges in the suit filed Friday that he has ``suffered the loss of his reputation, shame, mortification MORTIFICATION, Scotch law. This term is nearly synonymous with mortmain.  and hurt feelings'' as a result of Judge Judy's statements on the show.
