BRIEFLY : CRIME PROGRAM SET FOR DEBUT IN VALLEY.


Los Angeles police Chief Bernard C. Parks Bernard Parks (born December 7, 1943 in Beaumont, Texas) is a member of the Los Angeles City Council, representing the 8th District in South Los Angeles and former Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department.

 announced Tuesday that a long-awaited program to use crime analysis to plan crime-fighting strategies will kick off in the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.
 next week, before being phased in through the rest of the city beginning in November.

The program, known as FASTRAC (Focus, Accountability, Strategy, Teamwork, Response and Coordination) will use up-to-the-minute computer analysis data to track crime problems.

Every Thursday, Parks and the Police Department command staff will meet with bureau commanders to discuss and judge their success in fighting specific crime problems identified by analysis. Bureau officials will be held accountable for poor responses.

In a report to the Police Commission on Tuesday, Parks said the first FASTRAC session will be Oct. 22 in the Valley Bureau.

County workers get OK for Hahn funeral

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is the five member governing board of Los Angeles County, California. Members of the board of supervisors are elected by district, the current members as of April 2006 are:

 directed department heads Tuesday to let as many of their employees as possible attend the funeral of retired Supervisor Kenneth Hahn.

Hahn, who died at the age of 77 on Sunday, served on the board for 40 years until his retirement in 1992. Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, who succeeded Hahn in the 2nd District seat, made the motion asking that employees be allowed to attend the funeral as ``official representatives'' of the county.

Burke also led a moment of silence for Hahn at the start of the supervisors' meeting Tuesday.

Funeral services for Hahn are scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. at the Faithdome of the Crenshaw Christian Center at 7901 S. Vermont Ave.

In an accusation filed last week, the Medical Board of California alleged that William Vicary deleted potentially damaging material from notes of interviews with the younger brother and tried to hide the alterations so that they would not be discovered during Lyle and Erik Menendez's murder retrial last year.
