BRIEFLY : CREWS QUENCH FIRE AT ENCINO BUILDING.


ENCINO - A one-story building at the corner of Ventura Boulevard and Encino Avenue went up in flames for more than 30 minutes late Monday night, fire officials reported.

The building, reported to be a restaurant, was engulfed by fire that was extinguished shortly before midnight, said Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Los Angeles.  spokesman Jim Wells.

No other structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.

The fire was reported at 11:15 p.m., Wells said. About 55 firefighters in 11 fire trucks and two rescue ambulances fought the blaze.

Wells said shortly before midnight that the department did not know the name of the restaurant, nor had they reached the owners of the building or the business. The cause was under investigation early this morning.

If Riordan recovers sufficiently from a bad cold, he and his new bride plan to attend the ceremony Wednesday at the Los Angeles Music Center The Music Center (officially named the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County) is one of the three largest performing arts centers in the nation. Located in downtown Los Angeles, the Music Center is home to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Ahmanson Theater, Mark Taper , according to his spokeswoman, Noelia Rodriguez.

Riordan and Daly are set to return to Los Angeles today from Sun Valley, where a Valentine's Day wedding was held under a blanket of secrecy, with mayoral officials refusing all comment about the proceedings.

Big rig hits, kills driver on freeway

CAMARILLO - One person was killed Monday when a truck driver lost control of his big rig at the top of the Conejo Grade on the northbound Ventura Freeway and slammed into a pickup at the Camarillo Springs Road exit, officials said.

The identity of the victim was not released, pending notification of relatives, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher Software that determines what pending tasks should be done next and assigns the available resources to accomplish it.  Officer Paul Thompson said the driver of the big rig was Larry Greene, 30, of Simi Valley. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital is a hospital in Camarillo, California, USA. It is currently operated by Catholic Healthcare West. History

Officers investigating the crash had yet to determine a cause late Monday night. Thompson said Greene's truck, which was carrying a skip loader, had come upon slowing traffic as the roadway starts a steep descent toward Camarillo.

Greene steered his truck into the guard rail to try to slow it down, veered into traffic lanes and sideswiped another big rig. He picked up more speed as he approached the exit and careened into the truck. The force of the crash pushed both vehicles halfway along the off-ramp.

Greene was able to crawl away from his truck, Thompson said. The driver of the other big rig was not injured.

2 male teens rob woman, flee scene

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - Two male teen-agers robbed a woman at gunpoint behind the Sears parking lot on the 12000 block of Victory Boulevard on Monday afternoon, police said.
