Pot grower pleads not guilty, cites 215

A man arrested last year in a rented Bel-Air mansion full of marijuana plants pleaded not guilty Monday to federal allegations that he and others plotted to grow massive amounts of pot to sell to cannabis clubs.

Todd McCormick claims Proposition 215 gives him the right to grow marijuana to treat his chronic pain brought on by several bouts of cancer and other illnesses. He denies he intended to sell narcotics narcotics n. 1) techinically, drugs which dull the senses. 2) a popular generic term for drugs which cannot be legally possessed, sold, or transported except for medicinal uses for which a physician or dentist's prescription is required.  to Cannabis Buyer's Clubs.

Man shot walking on Van Nuys Blvd.

VAN NUYS - A 33-year-old Los Angeles man was shot multiple times while walking shortly after midnight Monday, officials said.

The man, who police declined to identify, was shot about 12:15 a.m. in the 8700 block of Van Nuys Boulevard, said Los Angeles police Detective Harvey Serrena.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear and police did not know if it was gang related, Serrena said.

 may restrict off-duty club jobs

Citing the possibility of increased liability, LAPD Chief Bernard Parks is opposing the idea of allowing police officers to work off-duty, in uniform, providing security at nightclubs and theaters in Hollywood.

Parks said in a report to be considered by the Police Commission today that the current policy requires his office to review and approve specific locations for uniformed, off-duty officers.

Chief set to discuss community concern

The Los Angeles Police Commission has called a special public meeting for Aug. 20 at the Parker Center Auditorium to allow Police Chief Bernard Parks to address community concerns about his plan to transfer senior lead officers back to patrol duties.

The lead officers have served as the LAPD's liaison to the community, including Neighborhood Watch groups, but Parks wants to have that role filled by police sergeants so he can transfer the leads back to patrol duties.

Park Service to ease permits for movies

The National Park Service announced Monday that it will make it easier for the movie industry to film in the Santa Monica Mountains The Santa Monica Mountains are a low transverse range in southern California in the United States. Geography

The park's Web site is being expanded to allow location managers to download and complete applications for use of Park Service locations, said Art Eck, superintendent of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area: see National Parks and Monuments (table). .

Sample location photos will be added to the site, along with other pictures that can be electronically mailed, Eck said.
