State and federal laws require cities to conduct timely financial audits of various public programs they administer. To complete audits for the 1997-98 fiscal year, the council must approve a new audit firm in the coming four weeks.

The Finance Department has received four applicants - Diehl, Evans & Company L.L.P; KPMG KPMG Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (accounting firm)
KPMG Kaiser Permanente Medical Group
KPMG Keiner Prüft Mehr Genau (German)
KPMG Kommen Prüfen Meckern Gehen
Peat Marwick L.L.P; Thomas Bigbie & Smith; and Moss, Levy & Hartzheim.

Today the council will consider whether to appoint two members to a special committee to interview the four firms and bring back a recommendation or to allow the Finance Department staff to conduct the interviews and make the recommendation.

The city conducts annual audits of the redevelopment agency and other departments and programs, presented in December.

T.O. may ask public for curtain opinions

THOUSAND OAKS - Residents will be asked to dial in their opinions about enhancements to the much-maligned copper curtain if the City Council agrees tonight to use a public outreach tele-registration program to gauge public preferences.

Last month, the council approved the recommendation by an ad hoc committee ad hoc committee A committee formed with the purpose of addressing a specific issue or issues, which theoretically is disbanded once its raison d'etre is finished  to approve a $150,000 plan to lay the silhouette silhouette (sĭl'ĕt`), outline image, especially a profile drawing solidly filled in or a cutout pasted against a lighter background.  of an oak tree over the current controversial copper curtain hanging on the east side of the Civic Arts Plaza. The ad hoc committee reviewed 15 designs for the oak tree silhouette and recommended three options.

The council today will vote to activate the Community Action Partnership System for the second time to allow residents to voice their preferences on the three options.

The system was first used last month when the City Council activated CAPS to gauge public opinion on the 11-acre parcel east of the Civic Arts Plaza. About 700 residents registered their preferences of the six design options recommended for development of that site.
