SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - Simi Valley police reported that an employee of the 7-Eleven store on Cochran Street was robbed of cash receipts he was carrying from the store Thursday Thursday: see week. .

The victim, Steven Bloch Bloch , Konrad Emil 1912-2000.

German-born American biochemist. He shared a 1964 Nobel Prize for research on cholesterol and fatty acid metabolism.
, 42, told police an unknown man approached him from the rear, poked him in the back with an object and demanded the money bag Bloch was holding outside the store at 1840 Cochran St. Bloch said he did not see the man and there is no description.

The incident occurred at 4:32 p.m. The robber fled in an unknown direction and no arrests have been made.

Japanese festival to kick off in Oxnard

OXNARD - The Fujimatsuri Festival, sponsored by the Oxnard Buddhist Temple, will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today on the temple grounds.

The event, open to the public at no cost, celebrates the birth of Shinran Shonin, founder of the Jodo Shinshu Jōdo Shinshū (浄土真宗 "True Pure Land School"  School of Buddhism. Fujimatsuri translated means wisteria wisteria (wĭstēr`ēə) or wistaria (–târ`–), any plant of the genus Wisteria,  festival, and the emblem of the Shinran Shonin family incorporates the wisteria flowers.

The temple is at 250 H St., Oxnard.
