THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  - When the city's libraries reopen today, patrons can expect to see a quicker computer system at work.

The computer system for the Grant R. Brimhall Library The Grant R. Brimhall Library serves as the main Thousand Oaks Library building. It is controlled by the Thousand Oaks Library System, which also controls the Newbury Park Branch Library. The Grant R. Brimhall Building is located on Janss Rd. near State Route 23. , as well as the Newbury Park branch, was upgraded over the weekend to allow it to handle challenges expected in 2000.

``The only thing that will be real noticeable immediately to the public is (computers) will be faster,'' said Steve Brogden, library deputy director, adding that the upgrade cost ``tens of thousands'' of dollars.

NEWBURY PARK - Flood control, roads and other public works operations will be among the topics discussed at a Town Hall meeting scheduled for 7 tonight.

Ventura County Supervisor Frank Schillo is organizing the meeting, which will feature presentations by the Thousand Oaks Public Works Department Many governments worldwide have had departments or ministries referred to as the Public Works Department either formally or informally.

Recycling available for old directories

VENTURA - New telephone books are on the way, and programs are being established so Ventura So Ventura is the 2005 debut EP by Scottish band Tempercalm. Overview
So Ventura was limited to a run of 1000 copies, and some copies can still be found in select shops around the UK.
 County residents can recycle their old directories.

Pacific Bell directories will be collected through March 31 at various drop-off and curbside locations, with GTE GTE General Telephone & Electronics

Workshop planned for literacy tutoring

THOUSAND OAKS - A free literacy tutor workshop will be offered from 2 to 4:30 p.m. March 24-25 at Conejo Valley Adult School, 1025 Old Farm Road, Thousand Oaks.

The workshop will prepare volunteers to tutor adults in basic literacy skills. Volunteers do not need to have a teaching background.

After training, volunteers must commit a minimum of two hours a week, days or evenings to tutor an adult student at the school's literacy center. To register or for information, call (805) 374-1161.
