The bone spur had contributed to chronic soreness Roberts experienced in the heel for most of the season. It is his second operation on the foot. He had already undergone surgery for a ruptured Achilles' tendon.

Roberts, who played in 51 games this season and averaged 7.0 points and 3.2 rebounds, had known for some time he would require surgery on his heel. But he decided to play through the pain after Brian Williams missed the final 11 games with tendinitis in his right knee, which left the Clippers shorthanded at the center position.

``(My heel) was hurting but I had to play through it,'' Roberts said.

Roberts missed all but 14 games of the previous two seasons with ruptured Achilles' in both feet.
