Browns owner Al Lerner on Monday put an end to any guessing about the name of Cleveland's new NFL football home.

It's Cleveland Browns Stadium - a name as simple as the team's unadorned helmets.

Lerner is passing on a chance to sell stadium naming rights to one business or organization. Instead, the Browns are selling naming rights to the new stadium's four gates.

Lerner and team president Carmen Policy said the Cleveland Clinic, CoreComm, National City Corp. and Steris Corp., each with a sponsorship agreement, will each have a gate with the organization's name above the entrance.

Policy said some NFL owners get up to $5 million a year by selling stadium naming rights. He said by limiting sponsorship to the four gates, the Browns will receive significantly less.

He refused to disclose the specific dollar amounts in the gate deals.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: UCLA has suspended reserve safety Audie Attar for the Sept. 4 season opener against Boise State for violating team rules.

Attar, a redshirt freshman and Claremont native, will compete for playing time behind starters Jason Stephens and Ryan Roques. The suspension stemmed from his involvement in a fight, according to a report in the Daily Bruin.

MOTOR SPORTS: Stock car racing great Richard Petty checked out of a Greensboro, N.C., hospital and returned home after being treated for bleeding ulcers.

The 61-year-old Petty was admitted to Moses Cone Hospital last week after he lost 40 percent of his blood, according to son Kyle Petty.

COLLEGE BASEBALL: Baylor pitcher and designated hitter Jason Jennings won the Rotary Smith Award as college baseball's player of the year.

The right-hander was 13-2 with a 2.58 ERA for the Bears this past season with 172 strikeouts in 146.2 innings. He was also the team's designated hitter, batting .386 with 17 homers and 69 RBI.

COLLEGE SPORTS: USC senior associate athletic director Don Winston was named the 1999 Fund Raiser of the Year by the National Association of Athletic Development Directors.
