MOORPARK - The Ventura County Sheriff's Department The Ventura County Sheriff's Department (VCSD) provides law enforcement for the unincorporated areas of Ventura County, California, USA, as well as several cities within the county. The cities that VCSD serves are Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, and Thousand Oaks.  and Albertson's Food Market will join in hosting a ``kid's care'' event today as a way to give parents tools to keep their children safe.

The event will include free fingerprinting and photographing that will be placed in an identification pamphlet. The pamphlets give parents the most up-to-date identification information to use in case of an emergency.

Deputies also will be on hand to answer questions and give crime prevention tips from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the market, 475 Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Ave.

Also, the Moorpark DARE program will host a fund-raiser at the market from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Sunday.

Bicycle sting nets 17-year-old suspect

MOORPARK - A bicycle theft sting by Ventura County sheriff's deputies resulted in the arrest Thursday of a 17-year-old Moorpark resident who rode off on a decoy DECOY. Authorities devised the sting operation Noun 1. sting operation - a complicated confidence game planned and executed with great care (especially an operation implemented by undercover agents to apprehend criminals)  in response to a rash of bicycle thefts from shopping centers shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into  and unlocked garages in Moorpark. Nine have been reported since the first week of June.

The deputies and members of the sheriff's Crime Suppression Unit left bicycles unlocked and unattended in areas throughout the city and watched them.

At about 2 p.m. Thursday, they spotted the boy taking one of the bikes. He was arrested in a residential area nearby for petty theft and was later released to his parents. He has been the only one caught in the sting.

Authorities said anyone noticing suspicious activity around opened garages should call (805) 494-8200 Ext. 1, or call 911 if the crime is in progress.

While questioning Anthony Edward Ochoa, 25, and Carlos Gerardo Lopez, 18, deputies suspected they were under the influence of drugs. A search of Ochoa's El Camino turned up various illegal drugs that deputies believe were intended for sale.

Ochoa, a transient, and Lopez of Camarillo were booked into the county jail on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs, possession of drugs for sale and transportation of drugs.
