A gunman in Toluca, Mexico, killed a friend of world super-lightweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez, who was helping the boxer prepare for his next title fight.

The victim was Jesus ``Baby'' Gallardo, a middleweight who had retired, but was said by Chavez to be considering a comeback. Jesus Sanchez Angulo, chief spokesman for the state of Mexico The State of México (often abbreviated to "Edomex" from Estado de México in Spanish) is a state in the center of the nation of Mexico. The State's capital is the city of Toluca. , of which Toluca is the capital, also died in the shooting, apparently an innocent bystander, the government news agency Notimex reported.

Notimex said the gunman fired five shots. Three hit Gallardo and one hit Sanchez Angulo in the heart. The gunman fled in a waiting car. No motive was immediately apparent.
