SYLMAR - City charter reform and the possibility of Valley secession will be discussed today during a public forum sponsored by the United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.

The meeting, set to begin at 6 p.m. at Mission College in Sylmar, will feature advocates of both movements.

The business organization has taken a position in opposition to the latest proposal to rewrite the City Charter, the document setting out the organization and powers of municipal government. Man denies false disability claims

A former Northridge postal worker A postal worker is one who works for a post office, such as a mail carrier. In the U.S., postal workers are represented by the National Postal Mail Handlers Union - NPMHU and the American Postal Workers Union, part of the AFL-CIO.  pleaded not guilty Monday to federal charges that he had pocketed more than $400,000 in disability payments since 1975 while working at his own pool and spa company.

Paul Minor, 52, went on disability in 1971 after hurting his back lifting an iron ramp onto a truck, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Pamela Johnston.

Minor failed to disclose that he owned and operated A-1 California Spa Services. Since 1975, he had received more than $400,000 in disability benefits he did not have coming, the government alleges.

Police Commission to meet in Valley

TUJUNGA - The Los Angeles Police Commission will meet tonight in the San Fernando Valley, with Police Chief Bernard C. Parks Bernard Parks (born December 7, 1943 in Beaumont, Texas) is a member of the Los Angeles City Council, representing the 8th District in South Los Angeles and former Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Parks attended Los Angeles City College, received his B.S.
 and City Councilman Joel Wachs among those expected to attend.

Topics will include the chief's weekly report, a presentation by Wachs and a report from the City Council's Public Safety Committee on false alarms, as well as discussion of public safety and crime issues of concern to residents.

The meeting will be at the Sunland-Tujunga Municipal Building, 7747 Foothill Blvd. The public portion of the meeting will begin about 6:30 p.m.

Boy leaves hospital after van mishap

SUN VALLEY - A day after he was hit by the family van in a driveway mishap, a 3-year-old boy was discharged from the hospital Monday with no more than bruises to his stomach, officials said.

The boy was airlifted to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles where tests showed he had no broken bones or internal injuries, said hospital spokesman Steve Rutledge. He was kept overnight for observation.

Council to consider surcharge for 911
