ROSAMOND - Chemicals and equipment used to make methamphetamine were found hidden Sunday in a camouflaged lab in a remote area of Rosamond, Kern County sheriff's officials said Tuesday.

Sheriff's deputies found the materials in two underground storage containers near an abandoned trailer they were checking.

``The manufacturing was done in the trailer,'' sheriff's Detective Chevy Garza said. ``Once they were done, they would bury their equipment.''

The trailer, painted in camouflage colors and parked outside Rosamond in the Tyler Horse Canyon area, was vacant Sunday, Garza said. No suspects were identified and no arrests were made.

``There was nothing in it that would indicate that someone was living there,'' Garza said. ``It's not uncommon for people to live at one location and manufacture at another location.''

Deputies found a respirator, jars with labels identifying chemicals used to make the drug, hoses and other lab equipment in the underground vault. They also found a few guns and ammunition, but no methamphetamine.

DUI suspect killed in freeway crash

LANCASTER - A drunk-driving suspect was killed Monday night after he failed to negotiate a curve, lost control and rolled into oncoming traffic on the Antelope Valley Freeway, CHP officials said.

Rutilio Rodriguez, 36, of San Fernando died at 9:38 p.m. at Antelope Valley Hospital, according to the CHP report.

Rodriguez was traveling north on the freeway north of Ward Road when he lost control of his 1980 Toyota Corolla, hit the center divider and rolled twice before landing in the southbound lanes. Investigators said they believe Rodriguez was drunk.
