Freeway shut down to catch suspects

Two suspects who held up a Camarillo bank Thursday and sped off in a getaway car were arrested when law enforcement officials blocked off southbound traffic on the Ventura Freeway and stopped the car, authorities said.

The two young men walked into the Camarillo branch of City National Bank at 502 N. Las Posas Road shortly after 1 p.m. and demanded money, said Ventura County FBI Supervisor David Nesbitt. One displayed an automatic weapon, but no one was reported injured, he said.

The suspects took the money and left. Nesbitt said a person who observed them getting into a compact Honda with two other males inside took down the vehicle's license plate number as it sped away.

When police broadcast the number, a retired officer saw the car make its way onto the southbound Ventura Freeway.
