SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - The Rancho Simi Rancho San José de Nuestra Senora de Altagarcia y Simi is one of the land grants in California by the Spanish government. The name derives from Shimiji, the name of the Chumash village here before the Spanish.  Reporter - a 56-page brochure listing information about summer programs - will be mailed Tuesday to Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District residents.

 Santa Susana Santa Susana can refer to several places:
  • The Santa Susana Mountains in southern California
  • Santa Susana Pass, running through the abovementioned mountains

 Community Center, offices of the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Simi Valley Library, and the Sinaloa Public Golf Course.

The district is offering more than 250 classes, activities and programs, which will begin June 23.

Mail-in registration will be May 27 to June 6, while walk-in registration will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 9-20 at 1692 Sycamore Drive.

Woman, elderly man found shot to death

SANTA PAULA Santa Paula (săn`tə pôl`ə), city (1990 pop. 25,062), Ventura co., S Calif., on the Santa Clara River in a fertile valley that yields citrus fruits, avocados, vegetables, flowers, nursery products, and walnuts; laid out 1875, inc.  - Ventura County sheriff's deputies said they were called to the scene of a double murder in the 11000 block of Highway 15O early Thursday.

The Sheriff's Department received a 911 call at about 4 a.m., and arrived minutes later, where they found the bodies of Helen Dorothy Giardina, 42, and Jim Alexander, a man in his 80s. Both had apparently died from gunshot wounds. Officials said a suspect at the scene admitted to shooting the pair.

The suspect, Mike Hugo Garcia, was at the scene when deputies arrived, officials said.
