BRIEFLY : BRICK THROWN AT CAR INJURES TWO OFFICERS.

City tries to stop suits over Census

The suits seek to halt the use of statistical sampling in the 2000 Census, which the suits' Republican sponsors fear could result in counting of additional Democratic voters.

The council's action paves the way for the city to be the first in seeking to require a special sampling after the 2000 Census to make sure all people are counted.

West Valley police to hold open house

RESEDA - The public is invited Monday to tour the newly remodeled roll call room at the Los Angeles Police Department's West Valley station, a project that was funded completely by community members as a show of gratitude to officers.

The open house will start at 10 a.m. and feature appearances by Police Chief Bernard C. Parks Bernard Parks (born December 7, 1943 in Beaumont, Texas) is a member of the Los Angeles City Council, representing the 8th District in South Los Angeles and former Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Parks attended Los Angeles City College, received his B.S.
, council members Laura Chick and Cindy Miscikowski and LAPD Capt. Val Paniccia.

The recently completed renovations, including a new tile floor, new ceiling, projection television and air-conditioning system, was done by Community Leaders for a Better West Valley Police Station.

The station is located at 19020 Vanowen St.

Body of slain man is found in street

SUN VALLEY - A man was found dead in the middle of a street Friday with a gunshot wound to his head, authorities said.

The victim, who was not immediately identified pending notification of his family, was described as a Latino male in his early- to mid-20s. He was found in the 7500 block of Delia Avenue, near San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles.
