BRIEFLY : BOY HURT AFTER ROLLING INTO PATH OF VEHICLE.


TUJUNGA - A 6-year-old boy was injured when he rolled down a hill into the path of a car Wednesday morning, police said.

The boy, who was not identified, was in fair condition with scrapes all over his body, said Steve Rutledge, a spokesman for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. . He underwent surgery to his left arm, which was badly injured.

The boy rolled down a grade in an apartment parking lot into the path of a car traveling north in the 10100 block of Samoa Avenue at 11:45 a.m., said Officer Mary Brady of the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division. He was hit by the right front of the car.

Buildings evacuated after gas line breaks

BURBANK - About 1,000 employees were evacuated from Warner Records and another building after gas company employees working on a trench cracked a gas line Wednesday, a fire official said.

Council OKs choices for utility customers

A program that allows utility customers to decide the type of power they buy was approved by the Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  on Wednesday as a way to get people to use solar- or wind-generated electricity.

Under the program, residents would be allowed to request their electricity to be from ``green power,'' rather than the traditional fuel or coal.

While green power costs more, officials said they believe the higher rates could be offset through conservation.

 vows to treat drain areas better

The Department of Water and Power promised Wednesday to be more careful about clearing drainage areas following a problem in the Chatsworth Reservoir.

Councilman Hal Bernson Hal Bernson served as Los Angeles City Councilman for the 12th district. He was chair of the Transportation Committee. Prior to being on the City Council, he served in the Navy.

 complained that department employees had been environmentally insensitive in cleaning portions of the reservoir by driving their equipment through and damaging ecologically sensitive areas.

DWP officials acknowledged that field crews made a mistake and said the agency was taking steps to restore the area.

Homicides may drop to below 400 in '98

For the first time in three decades, homicides in Los Angeles are expected to number fewer than 400 this year, Police Chief Bernard C. Parks Bernard Parks (born December 7, 1943 in Beaumont, Texas) is a member of the Los Angeles City Council, representing the 8th District in South Los Angeles and former Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department.

As of Nov. 14, there had been 349 homicides citywide, compared to 502 for the same period last year, Parks said at a news conference.

Serious crimes, including homicides, rapes, robberies, burglaries and car thefts, have declined in all parts of the city, the chief said. Serious crimes declined 12.7 percent this year to 146,113, he said.
