Brian Wade Grant (born March 5 1972, in Columbus, Ohio) is a retired American basketball player.
, formerly of Sacramento, signed a seven-year, $63 million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers The Portland Trail Blazers are a professional basketball team based in Portland, Oregon. They play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Grant, who played only 24 games last season because of a shoulder injury, turned down a seven-year, $48 million deal from the Kings.

Grant's contract, which makes him the highest-paid player on the team, also includes an out clause after the third year, agent Mark Bartelstein said.

The 6-foot-9 Grant was the eighth overall pick in the 1994 NBA draft. His best season was 1995-96 as he averaged 14.4 points and 7.0 rebounds as the Kings made the playoffs for the first time since the franchise moved to Sacramento in 1995-96.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Earl Boykins of Eastern Michigan scored 16 points to lead the United States to its second straight University Games victory, 88-48 over Britain at Alcamo, Sicily.

The United States (2-0) led only 10-9 in the first 6-1/2 minutes before pulling off to lead 38-27 by halftime. Britain's Adrian Fulton scored the first basket of the second half, a 3-pointer, and the United States went on a 16-0 run to lead 54-30 with 15:40 to play.

Curtis Staples of Virginia added 14 points and six steals, Ansu Sesay of Mississippi had 11 points and Brian Skinner of Baylor had 11 points and eight rebounds. The United States had a 39-26 edge on the boards.

Britain committed 26 turnovers and shot only 20.4 percent (11 of 54).

SWIMMING: Double Olympic gold-medal winner Alexander Popov kept his six-year unbeaten string alive in the 50-meter freestyle, winning at the European Swimming Championships in Seville, Spain, with the best time in the world this season.

The Russian was clocked in 22.30 seconds as he captured his second title of the meet. He won the 100 meters earlier, also with the best time of the season, 49.09.

Moya, 20, ranked eighth in the world, will face eighth-seeded Patrick Rafter of Australia. Rafter followed his quarterfinal victory over Michael Chang with a 6-4, 6-4 decision over sixth-seeded Thomas Enqvist of Sweden.
