UNIVERSAL CITY - Awards for outstanding sound mixing for motion pictures and television were handed out Saturday at the Cinema Audio Society's 34th annual awards banquet.

Gary Rydstrom Gary Roger Rydstrom (born 1959) is an award-winning sound designer.

Rydstrom began his career at Skywalker Sound, Northern California in 1983. Offered the job by a college professor, Gary received the opportunity to work with his mentor, Star Wars sound designer Ben Burtt.

Chain-reaction crash injures boy, woman

VAN NUYS - A 3-year-old boy and a 43-year-old woman were injured Saturday in a four-vehicle, chain-reaction freeway crash in Van Nuys, police said.

The collisions occurred about 3:15 p.m. on the northbound San Diego Freeway The San Diego Freeway (Interstate 405, and the part of Interstate 5 south of the El Toro Y[1]) is one of the principal north-south highways in Southern California, and the major beltway of I-5 running through Southern California.  at Victory Boulevard, said California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Karen Faciane.

The boy was airlifted to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles with stomach and chest injuries, said Los Angeles city fire spokesman Bob Collis.

A 43-year-old woman suffered a minor cut to her head and was taken to a hospital in good condition, Collis said.

Coast highway shut by morning mudslide

MALIBU - A mudslide forced the closure of a mile-long stretch of Pacific Coast Highway Pacific Coast Highway may refer to:

All four lanes of the highway were covered in mud and rock at 8:35 a.m., forcing closure between Big Rock Canyon and Las Flores Canyon, according to California Highway Patrol Sgt. William Hines.
