Bird in engine forces jetliner into landing

BURBANK - An Alaska Airlines Alaska Airlines, (NYSE: ALK) is an airline based in Seattle, Washington, United States. No one was injured.

Flight 367 took off at 5:56 p.m. from the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport for Portland, Ore., when the bird ended up in the right engine of the MD-80 aircraft, Alaska Airlines spokesman Jack Evans said.

The damaged engine was shut down, and the plane turned around and landed at Burbank Airport, Evans said. None of the 95 passengers or five crew members suffered injuries.

``Once you shut down one engine, you have to come back down. You need to have both those engines to fly safely. You can fly safely with one but there's no backup for (the remaining engine),'' Evans said.

Repairs on the plane during the busy summer season will cause at least several flights to be canceled, he said.

23-year-old driver dies after car crash

CANOGA PARK - A Calabasas man was killed Thursday when his car flipped over several times after he rear-ended another vehicle, police said.

Vehicle tumbles off freeway; 3 injured

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - Three people were injured, two critically, in a crash in which a vehicle flipped off the Hollywood Freeway and landed in the Valley Plaza Park filled with people Thursday night, officials said.
