HOLLYWOOD - A lawyer showed up in court Friday for actor Martin Lawrence Martin Fitzgerald Lawrence[1] (born April 16, 1965) is an American actor, comedian, director and producer. He came to fame during the 1990s, establishing a Hollywood career as a leading actor.  and got the entertainer's arraignment A criminal proceeding at which the defendant is officially called before a court of competent jurisdiction, informed of the offense charged in the complaint, information, indictment, or other charging document, and asked to enter a plea of guilty, not guilty, or as otherwise permitted  on a battery charge postponed until May 19.

Lawrence, who was not required to appear in Hollywood Municipal Court for the proceeding since the charge against him is a misdemeanor, was arrested March 28 for allegedly punching a man at a Hollywood-area nightclub.

The battery charge is punishable by up to six months in jail and a $2,000 fine, Deputy City Attorney William Sterling said.

Lawrence was taken into custody at The Gate nightclub on North La Cienega Boulevard La Cienega Boulevard is a major north/south arterial road that runs from El Segundo Boulevard in El Segundo, California on the south to its end on the Sunset Strip/Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.  after a 25-year-old Westwood man complained that he had been punched by the star of the Fox comedy ``Martin,'' Sterling said.

The man claimed Lawrence hit him twice in the face with a closed fist after they bumped into each other on the dance floor.

Lawrence was hospitalized last May after he wandered into traffic, armed and screaming, and struggled violently with police in Sherman Oaks. His doctor attributed Lawrence's behavior to exhaustion and dehydration.

Prosecutor Paul Greenwood said Peterson stabbed her husband, Peter Peterson, in the forehead with an 8-inch kitchen knife Tuesday night after attacking a 69-year-old woman with a potted plant and metal garden rake.

Peterson faces a maximum 15 years in prison if convicted. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 8.

Hair salons to hold styling charity day

A ``cutathon'' to raise money for fighting AIDS, saving the Earth and supporting battered women is scheduled Sunday at the Allen Edwards salons in Studio City and Woodland Hills.

Organizers said that from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the salons at both locations will offer haircuts, facials and manicures at half-price, between $15 and $25.

Colina Norte, which drew worldwide attention when the cult committed mass suicide last month inside a hilltop mansion, will be known as Paseo Victoria, named for a child who lives on the short cul-de-sac.

Residents confirmed Thursday that they had met in recent days to vote on a new name because of continuing concerns about a string of ``strange'' visitors to their neighborhood.

Female body found in burned-out car

PANORAMA CITY - The body of a woman was found in a charred car Friday, police said.

Police received a 911 call from a merchant who saw the burned-out car in the 14700 block of Arminta Street shortly after 5 p.m., Officer Mike Partain said. ``Police responded and upon arrival observed a burned-out vehicle with a female body inside,'' said Partain who added that police have no suspects nor motives for the apparent homicide.
