Prop. 187 backers launch Davis recall

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - A campaign to recall Gov. Gray Davis will hold its first meeting at 7 p.m. today, organizers said.

The public session is scheduled in the Grand Ballroom of the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn Hotel, 4222 Vineland Ave.

A second public meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Herman's Hall, 5657 Lindley Ave., Tarzana.

The group launched its bid Tuesday to recall Davis for failing to appeal an adverse federal ruling against Proposition 187. Supporters of the measure to deny benefits to illegal immigrants said they think the U.S. Supreme Court would have upheld the proposition.

Information about the recall campaign is available by calling (818) 501-2061 or at the campaign's Web site, www.recalldavis.com, the group's spokesman said.
