BRIEFLY : A.V. PAIR PLEADS GUILTY TO HATE CRIME.


Two Lancaster men pleaded guilty Friday to hate crime charges that will earn them a two-year prison sentence.

Randy Rojas, 21, and Brent Toner, 20, pleaded guilty to one count of assault with a deadly weapon Assault with a Deadly Weapon is the term used to describe the act of threatening to harm one or more people by using a weapon (usually a firearm). Here, assault must be differentiated from battery as they are often confused. Assault is threatening to use force.  and admitted that they beat a man because of his race.

On Sept. 20, 1995, the two men walked up to a man outside of a 7-Eleven store in Lancaster and asked if he was ``down with the white race.'' When the man said he was Latino, they started to beat him up, according to according to

Police group endorses Stein as city attorney

 for not doing enough to fight off civil lawsuits against police officers.

Stein had previously been endorsed by the Police Protective League, which represents officers through the rank of lieutenant.

Area students receive awards, will perform

Miguel Ferguson of Topanga, a 12th-grade violist at Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills, is receiving a $1,000 scholarship.

Nicole Pryor, a 12th-grade vocalist from Moorpark High School Moorpark High School, located in Moorpark, California, is a public high school in the Moorpark Unified School District and currently has an enrollment of 2,478 students.[1] , is receiving a $500 scholarship, officials said.
