BRIEFLY : 7 SCHOOLS GAIN FUNDS IN VENTURA COUNTY.VENTURA - Seven schools in Ventura County have been awarded state grants to improve technology in their schools. These special educational monies will give these schools the opportunity to use technology to facilitate learning for students and provide teachers the training to effectively use these new tools. The schools and the amounts awarded are: Big Springs School, Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts. , $13,075; Oak View Continuation High School A continuation high school is an alternative to a comprehensive high school primarily for students who are considered at-risk of not graduating at the normal pace. The requirements to graduate are the same but the scheduling is more flexible to allow students to earn their credits , $4,000, and Oak Hills School, $13,700, both in the Oak Park Unified School District Oak Park Unified School District (OPUSD) is a K-12 school district in southeast Ventura County, California, USA. District, $18,325; Fremont School, Oxnard Elementary School District, $36,200; Las Posas School, Pleasant Valley School District Pleasant Valley School District is a school district in the west end of Monroe County, Pennsylvania in the United States. Enrollment for the district has reached around seven thousand students. , $11,200; Poinsetta School, Ventura Unified School District, $13,150. This is the third round of technology funding for California schools under the Morgan-Farr-Quackenbush Education Technology Act of 1992. - Daily News Grants are available from women's fund CAMARILLO - Agencies and programs designed to help improve conditions for local girls and women can apply for grants of up to $8,000 from the Women's Legacy Fund. The organization is focusing this year on family violence, child abuse, anger management and welfare-to-work transition. Programs that use mentoring or role modeling are especially encouraged to apply. ``The fund was set up three years ago in response to community needs and issues that relate to women and girls.'' said Gail Brown, program director. Applicants must be nonprofit community-based agencies that serve Ventura County residents.
