BRIEFLY : 7 AGENTS CHARGED IN INSURANCE SHEME.


Seven insurance agents were named in a federal mail fraud and conspiracy complaint for allegedly bilking insurers out of more than $7 million by filing, then canceling, life insurance policies.

The charges were filed Friday but not announced until Monday, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel S. Linhardt.

Charged were David Marchant, 62, of West Hills; Benjamin Ronald Samuels, 63, of Woodland Hills; Alexander Ernest Almeida, 56, of Los Angeles; James Rex Hartman, 40, of Yorba Linda; Charles Richie McNamee, 64, of Brentwood; John William Jones John William Jones (April 14, 1806 - April 27, 1871) was an American politician and physician who served in the United States Congress.

Jones was born in Rockville, Maryland, in 1806. His family moved to Nicholas, Kentucky, in 1810.
, 43, of San Diego; and Roger Allen Valdez, 46, of Apple Valley.

It wasn't immediately announced how many of the defendants were in custody. The agents were either unavailable or refused to comment.
