Insurance agent accused of fraud

SACRAMENTO - The state's insurance commissioner announced Thursday that he is pulling the license of a Studio City insurance agent suspected of selling bogus homeowner insurance policies to at least 10 consumers.

Jesse Wong, operating a business called the Insurance Factory, is accused of writing policies for companies that he did not represent, Insurance Commissioner Chuck Quackenbush Charles "Chuck" Quackenbush (born 1954) is a Florida law enforcement officer and former California politician. He served as Insurance Commissioner of California from 1995–2000 and as a California State Assemblyman representing the 22nd District, from 1986–1994.  said Thursday.

Wong was not available for comment Thursday.

In December 1996, the state's Department of Insurance began receiving the first of 50 complaints against Wong, after customers began filing claims and the sole proprietor refused to pay them.

Burbank approves arts center plan

BURBANK - A new 276-seat performing arts center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre.  is slated to open in early 1999 in Burbank's downtown mall The Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, Virginia is one of the longest pedestrian malls in the United States. Located on Main Street, it runs between 2nd and 5th Streets. It is laid entirely with brick and home to an array of restaurants, shops, offices and art galleries. , under a plan approved by the Burbank City Council this week.

The council voted to spend $1.4 million to renovate a 14,000-square-foot building in the mall and transform it into a theater. The site, located on Third Street, is owned by the Media City Center. But under the terms of the mall's original development agreement with the city, the space was set aside to be leased to the city for educational, cultural or recreation uses, said Mary Alvord, director of Burbank's Parks and Recreation Department.

The council Tuesday hired States Link Construction Inc. of Huntington Beach Huntington Beach, city (1990 pop. 181,519), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific coast, across from Santa Catalina Island, in an oil-producing area; inc. 1909. It manufactures aerospace vehicles, aircraft parts, optical instruments, and heat transfer equipment.  to complete the renovations, which will start this month.
