Dornan expected to request recount

SANTA ANA - Robert K. Dornan, who lost his seat in Congress to Democratic challenger Loretta Sanchez, will request a recount of the Nov. 5 balloting, the Orange County Register reported Thursday.

Dornan, a veteran Republican lawmaker who lost the heated race by fewer than 1,000 votes, has until Monday to make the request in writing to the Orange County Registrar of Voters, Rosalyn Lever.

But as of Wednesday, Dornan had not filed the necessary paper, Lever told the Register.

Dornan has alleged that voter fraud and improper ballot handling contributed to his defeat in the 46th Congressional District. He filed a letter of complaint two weeks ago with the Secretary of State.

Dornan will have to foot the expense of a recount, which is expected to cost between $296 and $358 a day for each four-member counting board. If the recount results in the election being overturned, the money will be returned.

JPL (language) JPL - JAM Programming Language.  video puts spin on rotating asteroid

PASADENA - Jet Propulsion Laboratory “JPL” redirects here. For other uses, see JPL (disambiguation).

Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is a NASA research center located in the cities of Pasadena and La CaƱada Flintridge, near Los Angeles, California, USA.
scientists say a new computer- generated video visualization is providing a fresh look at the topsy-turvy rotation of the asteroid Toutatis, which is due to pass near Earth today.

Eric De Jong and animator Shigeru Suzuki of JPL combined several computer simulation and scientific visualization techniques to show the bizarre rotation and surface details of Toutatis as it tumbles erratically on its journey around the Sun.

The video includes images of the asteroid from various vantage points, including the perspective of someone standing on its surface. Trajectories and explosive surface impacts are also shown for a more typical near-Earth asteroid, named Castalia.
