 - Two people in an armored van were killed Tuesday evening when the van overturned on the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley.  and went down an embankment, officials said.

Motion seeks to fix parking meter snags

Charging that 10 percent of digital parking meters are malfunctioning, Los Angeles City Councilman Joel Wachs called Tuesday for immediate steps to repair the faulty devices and to stop ticketing cars parked at broken meters.

His motion called for a moratorium on ticketing vehicles parked at broken meters and discipline of employees who violate the policy, reimbursement of any such tickets already given, random inspection of meters, prompt reporting and repair of broken meters, and legal action against the meter manufacturers.

UCs expecting more minority enrollments

University of California The University of California has a combined student body of more than 191,000 students, over 1,340,000 living alumni, and a combined systemwide and campus endowment of just over $7.3 billion (8th largest in the United States).  officials said Thursday they expect a slight upturn in the number of underrepresented minorities enrolling this fall, the second year without affirmative action affirmative action, in the United States, programs to overcome the effects of past societal discrimination by allocating jobs and resources to members of specific groups, such as minorities and women. .

Most of the gains were made by Latino students, who will make up 9.1 percent of overall enrollment, compared to 8.9 percent last year.

Truck recovered but missing load of fish

NORTHRIDGE - Auto theft detectives have found a stolen big rig truck in a Paramount business district, but the cargo, 43,650 pounds of fish, was missing, police said Tuesday.

New addition to zoo planned kid-friendly

The Los Angeles Zoo The Los Angeles Zoo founded in 1966, is a large zoo located in Los Angeles, California, USA.

The Zoo, located in Los Angeles' Griffith Park, is home to 1,200 animals from around the world.
 announced Tuesday it will build a new child-friendly area, using a $2 million gift from a foundation headed by Los Angeles County's richest man.

The Winnick Family Children's Zoo, funded by the Gary and Karen Winnick Family Foundation, is part of a two-phase project to make the zoo more fun and educational for children, said Rich Corgel, chairman of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association.
