Police arrest wife in man's '83 death

LONG BEACH - Nearly 15 years after her husband's body was found in a metal footlocker, a Long Beach woman has been arrested in Illinois for investigation of his murder, police said Friday.

Lauranette Rashay Small, 43, was arrested Thursday in Morton, Ill., after police obtained information that led to her whereabouts, authorities said.

Police had been searching for her since issuing a warrant in July 1983 - two months after her husband was killed. A federal warrant was issued for her last year when authorities suspected she might have left the state.

Steven Small's body was found inside a metal footlocker in the San Bernardino County desert south of Barstow.
