MISSION HILLS - CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the San Fernando San Fernando, city, Argentina

 Mission by hosting a series of ``Valley Pioneer'' lectures at the mission today.

Lecture topics range from the status of American Indians American Indians: see Americas, antiquity and prehistory of the; Natives, Middle American; Natives, North American; Natives, South American.  during the Mission Era to planning and development of the Valley after World War II.

The lectures begin at 2 p.m. at the mission, 15151 San Fernando Mission Blvd. Call 677-3566 for reservations.

Marijuana seized at Lancaster home

Deputies found one-pound bags of packaged marijuana as well as loose marijuana drying on a bed. Officials said about 10 plants that measured three to four feet high were found in the side rear yard and were worth $13,000.

The marijuana-filled packages were found in dresser drawers inside a bedroom. Ten seedlings were also found inside the home, officials said.

Hundreds of police officers in Los Angeles lost normal radio communications with the city's 911 dispatchers for several hours early Monday due to a technical malfunction, but authorities said emergency service to the public was not affected.

A technical malfunction caused a radio blackout between 911 dispatchers working downtown near police headquarters and about 600 officers patrolling citywide during the overnight shift, supervising dispatcher Software that determines what pending tasks should be done next and assigns the available resources to accomplish it. Officials dedicate pricey new station

Los Angeles city officials dedicated the new Jesse Brewer 77th Street Regional Police Facility on Monday, praising the state-of-the-art structure but bemoaning the higher-than-expected cost.

Officials originally promised voters who approved bonds for the project in 1989 that the replacement for the 77th Street Station would cost $15 million, but the final price tag was around $42 million, in large part because the project was redesigned to play a larger role in policing its south Los Angeles South Los Angeles is the official name for a large geographic and cultural area lying to the southwest and southeast of downtown Los Angeles, California. Nigerian pair given sentences for fraud

Two Nigerian nationals who live in North Hollywood were sentenced to federal prison Monday, after being convicted on tax and credit card fraud Credit card fraud is a wide-ranging term for theft and fraud committed using a credit card or any similar payment mechanism as a fraudulent source of funds in a transaction. Engie Ogbor-Herbert, 39, got 21 months behind bars and was ordered to pay $265,000 in restitution. Adekunie Rufai, 31, was sentenced to 18 months and must pay roughly $94,000, said Assistant U.S. Attorney David Lavine.

Ogbor-Herbert pleaded guilty to 15 counts of filing false tax returns and one count of credit card fraud, Lavine said.

Rufai pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to file false tax returns and possession of 15 or more unauthorized credit cards, the prosecutor said.
