Eagle Rock center named for Alatorre

EAGLE ROCK - The Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  on Friday narrowly approved naming the Eagle Rock Cultural Center for retiring Councilman Richard Alatorre.

The vote on the motion by Councilman Mike Hernandez came after last week's announcement by the Santa Monica Conservancy that a park would be named for Alatorre.

Hernandez said in the motion that Alatorre's contributions to the ``cultural and arts activities of the city deserve special mention, since they have greatly enhanced the quality of life in Los Angeles.''

The Richard Alatorre Eagle Rock View Park is being improved by the conservancy, and later will be transferred to the city. The center is at 2225 Colorado Blvd. in Eagle Rock.

The 56-year-old Alatorre is stepping down from the council after his term ends June 30.
