Dam project to get safety inspection

THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  - A structural inspection of a dam project that critics say is being built on an earthquake fault is scheduled for mid-April, state officials said on Wednesday.

Aspet Ordoubegian, the state's project manager for the Lang Ranch dam, said regulators plan to investigate the structural soundness of the dam and ensure construction plans are being followed.

Previously, the department had determined the 66-foot-wide and 356- foot-high dam being built at Westlake Boulevard and Lang Ranch Parkway was not located on faults.

Construction of the dam, being built to protect the downstream 2,257- home Lang Ranch development from runoff, began last May but was halted by the contractors on Feb. 11 after winter rains delayed work. Construction is expected to resume by April 14.
