The 23-year-old victim, Jordan LeGrand, was found fatally shot in his Pederson Road home Jan. 6, 2003. Before he died, he told a witness that he had been attacked by two men, according to according to

Hit-and-run crash claims 2 victims

RESEDA - A woman who suffered critical injuries following a traffic collision caused by a driver fleeing the scene of an crash died at a hospital Friday.

The 20-year-old woman died at 9 a.m., police said.

The woman was the driver of a sport utility vehicle that was hit broadside by another vehicle, driven by a 47-year-old woman who died instantly in the crash at Sherman Way and Etiwanda Avenue.

The identities of both women were unavailable Friday.

5 students hurt as bus hits pole

RESEDA - Five students suffered minor injuries Friday when a school bus struck a telephone pole, police said.

The crash occurred about 7 a.m. at the intersection of Winnetka Avenue and Vanowen Street. There were eight students aboard.

The ages of the children and their conditions and the school they attended were not immediately available.

Woman's killer given life term

A 43-year-old Reseda man who fatally hit a mother of three with a bus he hijacked was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Carlos Ray Garcia on May 2, 2001, hijacked the bus in an attempt to flee from police after he shot a 35-year-old man in the Rampart area. During a high-speed chase, the bus crashed into a mini-van driven by 34-year-old Guadalupe Arevalos of Norwalk and killed her.

Garcia was convicted in September of 11 felonies, including murder, carjacking The criminal taking of a motor vehicle from its driver by force, violence, or intimidation.

The u.s. justice department categorizes the crime of carjacking as a "completed or attempted Robbery of a motor vehicle by a stranger

Emergency room closes at midnight

CENTURY CITY - The emergency room at Century City Hospital will close at midnight, and Tenet Healthcare Corp. plans to shutter the entire facility by April 30 - but it will be reopened this fall with a new name.
