Lancaster (lăng`kəstər), city (1991 pop. 43,902) and district, county seat of Lancashire, NW England, on the Lune River.
 - Vandals hot-wired a 20-ton forklift and went on a rampage through the under-construction Gifford C. Cole Middle School, causing up to $50,000 damage.

``This is the fourth time people have broken in,'' said Bob Hill of Skidmore Contracting of Phoenix, Ariz. ``But it's never been this bad before.''

Witnesses said two youths, about 17 or 18, apparently jumped over a chain-link fence on Sunday Sunday: see Sabbath; week.  to vandalize the construction site.

The teen-agers powered up a large forklift, which they apparently used to punch holes in the walls of the three buildings on the campus.
