TEENS ARRESTED AFTER STORE HEIST

LANCASTER - Two teen-agers were in custody following a shoplifting-turned-robbery Tuesday afternoon at a Lancaster discount store, deputies said.

Ibarra Patricio, 18, of Mojave and Matthew Quinton, 19, of Rosamond were arrested on suspicion of robbery after deputies say the pair grabbed several canvas money bags and, when confronted by a store clerk, tried to stab him with a screwdriver.

The suspects fled the Less Than a Dollar store in the 1000 block of West Avenue I in a mid-'80s model Corvette, which was later spotted in the 45400 block of Cedar Avenue, deputies said. The two were found at a friend's house near where the car was parked and both were arrested.

About $600 was recovered near the scene and an additional $600 was found in Quinton's possession but investigators are unsure whether the cash was part of the stolen money.

The two were being held at Lancaster sheriff's station jail on suspicion of robbery in lieu of $50,000 bail each.
