BRIEFLY; MAN, 62, FOUND DEAD IN NORTHRIDGE CONDO.


A 62-year-old man was found dead in a hot tub in a Northridge condominium Thursday.

A neighbor found the man about 4:30 p.m. in the 11400 block of N. Tampa Avenue, said Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. CREWS GAIN CONTROL OF ARCADIA WILDFIRE

ARCADIA - A wildfire that burned about 750 acres of vegetation in the Angeles National Forest The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. Five firefighters suffered minor injuries fighting the blaze that began about 2:45 p.m. Monday north of Arcadia. Among the injuries were a twisted knee, a cut leg, a hurt foot, a twisted ankle and a strained back, authorities said.

The blaze is still regarded as suspicious, said county fire department Inspector Mark Whaling.

No homes were lost, although about 300 residents were evacuated.

CUSTOMS AGENTS PAY ATTENTION TO PLANE

U.S. Customs agents X-rayed the bags of some passengers who were aboard a Malaysia Airlines flight that arrived in Los Angeles Thursday.

It was part of a heightened security effort at the airport, an FBI spokesperson said.

The 300-plus passengers who arrived at LAX about 11 a.m. aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight 92 also underwent routine inspection of their immigration immigration, entrance of a person (an alien) into a new country for the purpose of establishing permanent residence.  BOSS ON LEAVE TO RUN FOR ASSEMBLY

Department of Water and Power executive Gerald Gewe will take over as interim chief of the utility on Jan. 1, while DWP General Manager David Freeman is running for an Assembly seat, officials said Thursday.

Freeman will be on leave until March.

Gewe, assistant general manager of the DWP, has been with the city- owned utility since 1967. He has headed water resources and planning, among other assignments.

``I am leaving the Department in very capable hands,'' said Freeman, DWP general manager.

Freeman is running for the 41st Assembly District seat, which includes parts of the western San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley
