REDEVELOPMENT BOSS TO STAY ON

MAGNET SCHOOL DEADLINE LOOMS

Friday is the deadline for applications to enroll students in Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population.  magnet schools.

The application forms and information can be found in the Choices 2000-2001 brochure sent to parents in December. The forms are also available at office counters at district schools and some area libraries.

Friday is also the deadline for submission of applications for the Permits With Transportation program.

TAX FORM ADVICE AVAILABLE FOR FREE

NORTHRIDGE - The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program will begin helping low-income residents prepare their returns starting Feb. 12.

The College of Business Administration and Economics at California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , offers the help in the form of 300 students specially trained in basic tax preparation problems. They and VITA supervisors can field most tax return questions.

Eligibility among taxpayers seeking the service is limited to those whose gross household income is $40,000 a year or less. VITA coordinators recommend that visitors bring W-2 forms, a copy of last year's tax returns and interest statements.

DRIVER IN CRASH INJURED CRITICALLY

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - The driver of a car crushed by a truck in a three-vehicle collision in North Hollywood was in critical condition Wednesday, police said.

The crash happened when the Chevrolet Monte Carlo The Chevrolet Monte Carlo was an American mid-size car. Originally introduced by Chevrolet for the 1970 model year (as competition with the Ford Thunderbird), it has gone through six generations as of 2007.  driven by the injured 45-year-old man collided with a truck at Vineland Avenue and Sherman Way about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

The collision caused the truck to tip over on its side. It was then struck by a third car, an Eagle Vision, which caused the truck to fall on top of the Monte Carlo, police said.
