INAUGURATION SET FOR TODAY AT PIERCE

WOODLAND HILLS - Darroch ``Rocky'' Young will be officially inaugurated as president of Pierce College In 2006 the Library won a national Excellence award. Academics
Pierce College offers associate's degrees, mainly in the arts and sciences. There are also certificate programs in early childhood education, social services, dental hygienist, and others.
 today at the school's Performing Arts Building.

Young took office nine months ago and is credited with an enrollment increase of 4 percent. Pierce has also gained amenities such as air conditioning air conditioning, mechanical process for controlling the humidity, temperature, cleanliness, and circulation of air in buildings and rooms. Indoor air is conditioned and regulated to maintain the temperature-humidity ratio that is most comfortable and healthful.  and has launched a campus master plan.

SUPERVISOR SEEKS COMMITTEE REVIEW

Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe has called for a review of commissions, task forces and committees that advise the county on issues ranging from disabilities to geology.

Most of the committees work for nothing, but members of 50 of the 191 committees are paid - from $25 to $300 per member, per meeting. Knabe's request was inspired by a request from the county's Commission on Disabilities to double its members' pay to $50 a meeting.

OPTIONS SOUGHT TO SAVE BRIDGES

With an overflow crowd defending an anti-gang program, a city panel Thursday said it wanted more studies before recommending ending the after-school L.A. Bridges program.

The mayor has said he will provide funding through September.

BURBANK MAN HIT WITH SLUM CHARGES

Criminal charges were filed Thursday against a Burbank man accused of failing to make repairs at a North Hollywood motel where conditions led the previous owner to be convicted of slum charges last year.

Manji Vaghashia, 46, is charged with 17 violations of various health and building and safety codes at the two-story, 25-unit Econo Inn and Suites at 10750 Magnolia Blvd.

Arraignment A criminal proceeding at which the defendant is officially called before a court of competent jurisdiction, informed of the offense charged in the complaint, information, indictment, or other charging document, and asked to enter a plea of guilty, not guilty, or as otherwise permitted  is set for May 4 in Los Angeles Superior Court.
