 escaping from a fireplace caused more than $30,000 in damage to a home in the 24500 block of Gumtree Drive in Lake Elizabeth.

The fire broke out just before 10 p.m. Wednesday in the ground floor of the two-story house and quickly engulfed the living room, fire officials said.

All six members of the family were home but the working smoke detectors alerted the family to the danger, officials said. There were no injuries.

SHERIFF'S STATION SEEKING RESERVES

LANCASTER - The Lancaster Sheriff's Station, 501 W. Lancaster Blvd., will hold a recruitment day at 10 a.m. Saturday for people interested in joining the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Sheriff's Department's reserve program.

The two-hour session will provide preliminary paperwork to begin the application process.

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen between the ages of 20 and 54, have a high school diploma A high school diploma is a diploma awarded for the completion of high school. In the United States and Canada, it is considered the minimum education required for government jobs and higher education. All applicants must go through a background investigation, physical testing and psychological screening.

Reserve deputies volunteer in several different capacities including uniform patrol, search and rescue, and posse for those who have their own horses.
