Still embarrassed at the city's lackluster New Year's Eve party, a Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  city panel on Monday called for an audit on how $1 million of municipal funds were used in staging the events.

Councilwoman Ruth Galanter Ruth Galanter was a city councilwoman from Los Angeles. She served as President Pro-Tempore and President of the city council.  had called for the audit, saying officials needed to know what went wrong in the overall $4 million program so it can be avoided in the future.

The City Council's Arts, Health and Humanities Committee asked for the report in 30 days.

MEETING TODAY ON CIGARETTE TAX

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is the five member governing board of Los Angeles County, California. Members of the board of supervisors are elected by district, the current members as of April 2006 are:
  • District 1: Gloria Molina, Democrat
 and the county Children and Families First-Proposition 10 Commission will hold a special meeting today to discuss a plan on how to spend an estimated $165 million in cigarette taxes.

The commission recently released a plan on how to spend the taxes from the voter-approved Proposition 10, a 50-cents-per-pack tax on cigarettes that has generated a $670 million windfall statewide. The public meeting will be held at 1 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Hearing Room, 381 B at the Kenneth Hahn Kenneth "Kenny" Frederick Hahn (August 19, 1920–1997) was a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for forty years from 1952 to 1992. Prior to his election, Hahn served on the Los Angeles City Council.  Hall of Administration, 500 W. Temple St.

WACHS TO TAKE PANEL ON ROAD

A third Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  member announced plans on Monday to begin holding committee hearings around the city.

Councilman Joel Wachs, an announced candidate for mayor in 2001, said he plans to soon take the Public Works Committee he chairs to various areas around the city.

The first meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Arminta Street Elementary School auditorium, 11530 Strathern St., North Hollywood.

A group of 40 Palmdale homeowners filed a class action lawsuit class action lawsuit

Kaufman & Broad spokeswoman Amy Friend declined comment, saying her company has not seen the lawsuit.

POLICE PROBING SHOOTING CASE

OXNARD - A man was dead and a woman was in critical condition Monday after a shooting that police called a possible attempted murder and suicide.

Oxnard police Detective Sgt. Lee Wilcox said the shooting occurred about 11:30 a.m. in front of an apartment complex in the 5300 block of Perkins Road.

``It appears the male individual shot the female individual and turned the gun on himself,'' Wilcox said.
