LANCASTER - A Lancaster man convicted of fatally shooting an acquaintance in a dispute over money was sentenced Tuesday to 11 years in prison.

 in the May 1998 slaying of Richard Mendoza, 34, of Lancaster, who was shot to death on Stanridge Avenue after an argument with a man and woman in a minivan.

A Lancaster Superior Court jury acquitted Hagenno of murder.

The victim had previously made threats against Hagenno because he thought the defendant had informed on him after being arrested on drug charges, defense attorneys said. A confrontation ensued after both men met on the street while both were in their vehicles.

The toddler, whose name was not released, suffered burns over a large portion of the right side of his face and on the front and back portion of his right hand from a sulfuric acid sulfuric acid, chemical compound, H2SO4, colorless, odorless, extremely corrosive, oily liquid. A sheriff's helicopter flew the boy to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles where he was listed in stable condition.

Fire officials said the boy's parents were not clear on how he had gotten into the cleaner.

GLASS CEILING TOPIC OF WOMEN'S GROUP

PALMDALE - The Antelope Valley Business Women's Council will hold a roundtable discussion Friday on ``Myth Versus Fact: The Glass Ceiling for Women Has Been Shattered.''

Five panelists will talk about the progress women have made in business and what challenges they face in the 21st century.

JOB EXPO, RECRUITING SET FOR PALMDALE

PALMDALE - A jobs expo and recruitment session is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the Palmdale GAIN office, 1050 E. Palmdale Blvd., Suite 204.
