LANCASTER - Two toddlers were seriously injured Monday afternoon when they were hit by a car while walking with their mother across Avenue I at 15th Street East, sheriff's deputies said.

 lane as the toddlers and their mother, Edmin Godinez, hurried across the street, but one motorist didn't see the pedestrians until they entered the left-hand eastbound lane and couldn't stop in time.

The boys' mother was not hit, deputies said.

Motorist Mary Ann Underwood, 26, of Lancaster, and her two young sons were not hurt.

Many passing motorists stopped to assist and called 911, deputies said.

Kmart fire forces store evacuation

PALMDALE - More than three dozen people shopping at the Palmdale Kmart store were evacuated after a small electrical fire broke out at about 3:34 p.m. Monday.

Fire officials shut off the power and extinguished the blaze before contacting Southern California Edison Southern California Edison (or SCE Corp), the largest subsidiary of Edison International (NYSE: EIX), is the primary electricity supply company for much of Southern California. It provides 11 million people with electricity. .

No one was injured in the incident, and the extent of the damage is unknown, fire officials said.

Audiovisual goods stolen from school

LANCASTER - About $7,000 worth of audiovisual equipment was stolen in a weekend burglary at a county school for developmentally delayed children, officials said Monday.

Several special VCRs and testing equipment were stolen from the Los Angeles County Office of Education's special education unit at Linda Verde School, officials said.

``We're having to supplement various kinds of equipment, and we'll find ways to replace some of the things,'' said Assistant Principal Ed Greaves greaves
