GOLDBERG CRITICAL OF PROCEDURES

After her arrest last week in support of striking janitors, Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg called Tuesday for the Police Department to examine its arrest procedures.

``It was incredible the way we were treated,'' Goldberg said. ``It was like no one knew what to do.''

Police officials said they would have no comment until they study the situation further.

PACOIMA MAN'S DEATH PROBED

Authorities are investigating the death of a Pacoima man who was due to surrender in Los Angeles Superior Court Tuesday morning to begin serving a three-year state prison term for welfare fraud.

Ruben H. Mattioli, 41, died at General Hospital on Monday night after being transferred from a clinic at 1300 N. Mission Blvd., said Los Angeles County Coroner's Office spokesman Scott Carrier.
