Italy's Mario Cipollini extended his overall race lead Monday with victory on the second stage of the Tour de France Tour de France

The 30-year-old sprint specialist, who won five stages in the recent Tour of Italy, is now 36 seconds ahead of Britain's Chris Boardman, with last year's runner-up Jan Ullrich of Germany two seconds back in third.

``I'm on top form right now,'' Cipollini - sporting an all-yellow outfit with yellow bike to match his leader's jersey - told reporters.

Switzerland's veteran Tony Rominger remains in fourth place overall following his strong showing in Saturday's prologue.

BASEBALL: Troy Glaus might sit out the summer after major-league officials rejected an agreement with the Angels, his adviser said.

Glaus, selected by the Angels with the third overall pick in the June draft, had agreed to sign for a minimum bonus amount now so he could start his career, according to adviser Doug DeCinces. As the top picks signed - the top four all are unsigned - the Angels would adjust Glaus' bonus to fit the emerging market value.
