BRIEFING ON CLINTON'S TECHNOLOGY REINVESTMENT PROJECT SET FOR APRIL 6; LT. COL. ERIK METTALA, PH.D., TO DETAIL PLAN

 DETROIT, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- A detailed public briefing and discussion on President Clinton's new $500 million Technology Reinvestment Project will be held in conjunction with the International Robots & Vision Automation Show and Conference at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, in Room O2-42 at Cobo Center in downtown Detroit.
 Lt. Col. Erik Mettala, Ph.D. will detail the new plan to invest in activities to develop and deploy technologies into commercial and military products and processes. Mettala, deputy director of the Software and Intelligent Systems Technology office of the Advanced Research Projects Agency (formerly DARPA), is a key member of ARPA's Technical Execution Team that leads the federal effort, and controls the distribution of funds for the program.
 "We're pleased that our event has been selected for this public discussion of the Technology Reinvestment Project," said Donald A. Vincent, executive vice president, Robotic Industries Association, the trade group sponsoring the show and conference. "We're anxious to hear the details of the Clinton plan and the impact on the robotics and machine vision industries."
 The International Robots & Vision Automation Show and Conference at Cobo runs April 6-8 (conference sessions begin on April 5). More than 130 companies will exhibit the latest robots, machine vision systems, and related flexible automation equipment.
 Other featured speakers include Richard E. Dauch, former executive vice president, Worldwide Manufacturing, Chrysler Corporation, who will speak at 10:15 a.m. on April 6; Leo Reddy, president, National Coalition for Advanced Manufacturing, speaking at noon on April 7; and Joseph F. Engelberger, "the father of robotics," who will discuss the household robot at 4 p.m. on April 7.
