Mega gas supply needed in heat

The Gas Co. delivered 3.72 billion cubic feet of natural gas that day -- enough to serve 75,000 households for one year, said the utility's Denise King.

While that's a lot of natural gas, even more gas is used during the wintertime, she said. Officials said natural gas is a primary fuel used in power generation, which was at record highs as the heat wave struck the Southland and repeatedly drove temperatures into the triple-digits.

Mortgage rates fall for 5th week

WASHINGTON -- Rates on 30-year mortgages fell for a fifth consecutive week as sales of both existing and new homes in July declined, confirming a cooling housing market.
