Area gas prices on the rise again

Amid oil price increases blamed on strong Asian demand and fears over Iran's nuclear program, the Automobile Club of Southern California The Automobile Club of Southern California was founded December 13, 1900 in Los Angeles as one of the nation's first motor clubs dedicated to improving roads, proposing traffic laws and improvement of overall driving conditions.  said Friday that Los Angeles-area gasoline prices rose 16.6 cents this week.

Net advertising, retail sales robust

Windows Media to speak to Macs

SEATTLE - Microsoft Corp. will stop developing a version of its Windows Media Player Digital jukebox software for Windows from Microsoft that plays a variety of audio, video and streaming formats including MP3, WMA, CD audio and MIDI. Starting with Version 6.2 in 1999, the Windows Media Rights Manager was added for securing copyrighted content.  for Apple Computer Inc.'s Macs, and will instead offer free technology that lets people play Windows Media files using Apple's own software.

The company decided to stop developing the Mac version so it could focus on efforts for Vista, the new version of Microsoft's Windows operating system that is due out later this year, said Tim Harader, a senior business development manager with Microsoft's Windows digital media division.

Lucent expecting flatter revenues

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. - Telecommunications equipment maker Lucent Technologies Inc. said Friday that it expects slower revenue growth this year than previously forecast because of lower sales in the United States and China.

 Inc. said Friday that its fourth-quarter profit might exceed Wall Street's average forecast and reaffirmed its own forecast for this year.

HCA projected a profit of between 72 cents and 76 cents per share for the fourth quarter, and from $3.17 to $3.21 per share for the year ended Dec. 31, 2005.

Its shares rose $1.75, or 3.6 percent, to close at $50.94 in trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
