New CFO See Chief Financial Officer.  named at Countrywide

CALABASAS - Countrywide Financial Countrywide Financial Corporation (NYSE: CFC) is a diversified financial marketing and service holding company engaged primarily in residential mortgage banking and related businesses.  Corp. has promoted Eric P. New on-demand network planned

Los Angeles-based Gemstar-TV Guide International Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. is a media company that licenses interactive program guide technology to multichannel operators, such as cable and satellite television providers, and consumer electronics manufacturers, video recorder scheduling code under brands such as VCR  Inc. announced plans Monday to launch TV Guide Spot, an on-demand network that will launch to cable, tvguide.com and TiVo customers in the second quarter.

The new network will debut to more than 14 million Comcast and Time Warner digital subscribers, according to Rich Battista, chief executive officer of Gemstar-TV Guide International.

Symantec widens buyback approval

CUPERTINO - Symantec Corp. plans a $3 billion expansion of its previously authorized share-repurchase program when the company closes its purchase of Veritas Software Corp.

In a press release Monday, the data-security software company said the authorization to repurchase shares will be expanded to cover $4.24 billion worth. Symantec repurchased 98 million shares for $762 million between January 2001 and Feb. 25, leaving about $3.5 billion available for future buybacks.

Share price jumps for Movie Gallery

 - The stock of Movie Gallery Inc. jumped Monday after video-store giant Blockbuster Inc. abandoned its hostile bid to acquire Movie Gallery's merger partner Hollywood Entertainment Inc.

Blockbuster, the largest U.S. video-store chain with 5,500 outlets, announced Friday it wouldn't extend its tender offer of about $985 million. The Dallas-based company blamed the difficulty of gaining regulatory approval.

Shares of Movie Gallery surged $5.39, or 22 percent, to close at $29.45 on the Nasdaq Stock Market Nasdaq stock market
