Amgen offers aid to tsunami victims

 Tsunami Relief Program with an initial cash contribution of $1 million, the company announced Monday.

Amgen also launched an internal Web site to allow individual staff donations; the company will match staff contributions for at least six months. The immediate $1 million corporate donation to the Red Cross will be used to help fund field hospitals and the delivery of emergency relief supplies.

Dole snatches up last Saba shares

WESTLAKE VILLAGE - Dole Food Co. Inc. has acquired the remaining shares of Saba Trading AB, the company announced Monday.

Saba, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, is the leading importer and distributor of fruit, vegetables and flowers in Scandinavia. Dole, based in Westlake Village, acquired majority ownership in Saba in 1998.

Tenet group sells off five hospitals

Tenet Healthcare Tenet Healthcare Corporation (THC) is an operating company that owns and operates 57 hospitals in the United States [1]. It is based in Dallas, Texas. Its stock ticker symbol on the New York Stock Exchange is NYSE: THC.  Corp. reported Monday that several of its subsidiaries completed the previously announced sales of five acute-care hospitals in three states, including Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, formerly known as Queen of Angels-Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, is a hospital in Los Angeles, California, USA. The hospital has 434 beds. History

Napster kicks off its Nasdaq trading

Los Angeles-based Napster Inc. began trading on Nasdaq on Monday under its new ticker NAPS, after opening the exchange in a ceremony in New York's Times Square.

The company also reported that it expects to achieve strong revenue growth in its third quarter of fiscal 2005, based on subscriber acquisition initiatives and strong holiday sales, and reiterated its guidance for revenues of about $11 million.

More than 2.2 million shares traded before closing at $8.94.

Securities rates mixed at auction

WASHINGTON - Interest rates on short-term Treasury securities were mixed in Monday's auction.

The Treasury Department sold $19 billion in three-month bills at a discount rate of 2.275 percent, up from 2.225 percent last week. An additional $17 billion was sold in six-month bills at a rate of 2.560 percent, unchanged from last week's auction.

The three-month rate was the highest since Oct. 1, 2001, when the bills sold for 2.320 percent.

In a separate report, the Federal Reserve said Monday that the average yield for one-year constant maturity Treasury bills, a popular index for making changes in adjustable rate mortgages, rose to 2.77 percent last week from 2.71 percent the previous week.

SAN FRANCISCO San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  - Banking giant Wells Fargo & Co. has taken control of embattled mutual fund provider Strong Financial Corp., completing an acquisition negotiated more than seven months ago under the cloud of a financial scandal.

San Francisco-based Wells said Monday that it expects to blend Strong's business into its existing lineup of mutual funds during the second quarter. The bank hasn't decided if it will rename Strong Financial's mutual funds, Wells spokesman Won Ha said.

Strong Financial's sales price hasn't been disclosed. Industry analysts believe Wells is paying between $400 million and $700 million, a sharp discount from Strong Financial's estimated value before the Menomonee Falls Menomonee Falls (mənŏm`ənē), village (1990 pop. 26,840), Waukesha co., SE Wis., on the Menominee River; inc. 1892.
